Debunking Flat Earth Theory

I really didn’t want to get dragged into this “debate” – and will limit my involvement in it. After stating in a recent piece that the sudden revival and proliferation of Flat Earth Theory within the receptive (vulnerable) “conspiracy theory” ™ community was part of a CIA operation aimed at discrediting real conspiracies (such as Darwinism, Holohoaxery, 9/11, the Climate Con & Satanic elites) and abetting YouTube censorship, the inbox lit up with linked videos produced by FE guru Eric Dubay -- passionately (emotionally) arguing that the Earth is flat. I love "youse guys," but -- well --- it ain't flat!

Although any and all of the cleverly presented arguments that the High Priests of Flat Earth can concoct can be debunked – though one must admit that a few of the more sophisticated magic tricks might require a bit of thought and research to counter – the response here will be limited to what I consider to be the top three most powerful and easy-to-grasp debunks (out of a much larger list) of Flat Earthism.

They are:
 
1. Spherical Geometry
2. The Undiscovered Ice-Wall
3. Time-zones

How did one man seemingly come out of nowhere to cause "The Flat Earth Movement" to suddenly explode into the consciousness of the "conspiracy theory" community. I don't know this Eric Dubay character and cannot speak to his motives, specifically -- but the fact that Flat Earthism has been used to discredit things like 9/11 Truth is undeniable.

Question #1:
If Earth is Flat --- Then Why Does Spherical Geometry Work?

The GPS devices we all use to drive from point A to Point B are based off of a system of spherical coordinates (degrees). It's the same for navigators at sea. By basic mathematical calculation -- or even by the use of pre-programmed calculators one can find online --  the system of latitude and longitude used for the globe is 100% accurate for measuring distance. Take a long journey of a few hundred (or even one thousand) miles or more on a more or less straight highway and you will find that your car odometer will match your GPS mileage estimate every single time. Why is that? It’s because the distance calculations of spherical geometry work – right down to the foot!

Question #2:
If Earth is Flat --- Then Where’s the Great Circular Wall of Ice?

The idea that a natural wonder such as a 50,000-mile perimeter land & ice wall -- keeping the oceans from flowing over the edge of a flat earth -- has somehow been mistaken for a now supposedly non-existent continent called Antarctica raises the question: “Why has no one sailed parallel to the inside the circumference of this great ring to prove its existence and accurately map it?” By now, the illustrious Eric Dubay has got to have enough followers that he should be able to raise enough money to charter a ship and discover the Great Ice Wall. Heck, I'd even chip-in a $100 just to see such an effort flop! Until then, the great circular ice wall will have to remain as mythical as the Unicorn.

Question #3:
If Earth is Flat --- Then Why Are There Time Zones?

When the sun sets beneath the horizon, why are other places on Earth experiencing daylight? If the Earth was flat, the entire planet would be dark all at once as the Sun passes beneath the great underbelly. To explain away this undeniable proof, Flat Earth requires an even more outlandish theory claiming that the sun really doesn’t disappear behind the horizon. No, the "spotlight sun" disappears because it eventually moves too far away during its worldwide daily circular journey above the flat plane – even though anyone can clearly see that it travels in a direct East-West line all day and remains viewable at full size right up until the time it dips down.

Here’s a simple experiment that anyone can perform themselves. At the precise moment of final sunset, pull out a pair of powerful binoculars and see if you can pick up the “shrinking” sun again -- much like you would be able to pick-up a disappearing airplane flying away from you. You will not be able to. Why not? Because the Sun’s disappearance is caused by the horizon line --- not the distance.

1. The math of spherical coordinates works the same for measuring centimeters on the surface of a beach ball as it does for measuring miles on a globe. // 2. Flat Earth relies upon the existence of a Unicorn-like worldwide circular ice wall to keep the contents in. // 3. Sunset refraction can only occur when the sun dips below the horizon -- and once it's gone, there is no way to see it again (even with a telescope) until it rises up from behind you the following morning. Time Zones mean that different parts of the Earth enjoy sunlight at different moments in time -- an absolute impossibility on a flat plane.

Now, if one wants to argue the case for a geocentric universe and a stationary Earth, then that’s a different story. As even several modern day heliocentric scientists have admitted, all one has to do is sort of invert the magic math of Copernicus and the geocentric model -- which the great astronomers of antiquity all believed in -- works just as well as flying Earth model (here). Unfortunately, in addition to making political “conspiracy theorists” seem “out there,” Flat Earthism is also being conflated with the geocentric Ptolemaic Model that matches our observations and, for all we know (and, laugh if you will, I sit on the fence for this one) might still be correct after all.
 
I’ve got plenty more Flat Earth de-bunks and Globe Earth proofs to offer -- but frankly, if those aren’t enough, then what’s the point of writing a whole book here? If anyone cares to thoughtfully and specifically address the three questions just raised in a rational manner, I’m all ears.

1. Claim: UN logo proves a flat earth! / Rebuttal: The designers didn't want to disrespectfully leave out an entire hemisphere of countries! // 2. Claim: There are no direct flights from South America across Antarctica to Australia  / Rebuttal: Actually, that is FALSE. There are a few direct routes which take about the expected 13 hours (that alone kills FE Theory) -- but such flights are very rare because 95% of global population lives above the Tropic of Capricorn. Connecting flights in North Africa are used in order to fill up planes economically. / 3. Claim: On a globe, pilots would have to adjust downward for altitude to prevent flying off into space. / Rebuttal: Altitude -- whether controlled by eye or by sophisticated air-pressure-based or radar-based altimeters -- is always relative to the earth's surface. Therefore, the  "adjustment" is automatic. A similar concentric principle applies to the level laying of railroad tracks or building tunnels.
